Wearable Paintings: The Ilia Kernitskii x Little Hanfu Artist Collab for Kids

Four oil paintings became four kid-sized two-piece sets: inside the Ilia Kernitskii artist collab capsule, with cm sizing, care answers and wholesale ordering.

When an Oil Painting Becomes a Kid’s Outfit

Most “artist collaboration” kidswear means a character stamped on a T-shirt. This is different. For Autumn/Winter 2026, Little Hanfu worked with contemporary painter Ilia Kernitskii to translate his Sunflowers & Cacti oil-painting series into four wearable pieces for children — full paintings, printed edge to edge, on sweatshirt sets built for actual playgrounds. The result is the artist collab capsule (SXY-QK26-36 through 39): two cactus prints, two sunflower prints, each in two silhouettes.

The Artist Behind the Prints

Ilia Kernitskii (b. 1980, Khabarovsk, Russia) chairs the Far East Branch of the Russian Union of Artists and serves as visiting faculty at the Hebei Academy of Fine Arts in Hebei, China — the same academy where Little Hanfu’s founder Jiang Shuo teaches. His sunflowers and cacti paintings, shown in exhibitions from Beijing to Spain and Greece, carry the loose, light-soaked brushwork of plein-air oil painting. When the two studios met, the question was simple: what happens if a child wears a painting to school?

The answer took a season of sampling. The prints are reproduced with their canvas texture intact, so up close each sweatshirt reads as fabric; at arm’s length it reads as paint. The collab debuted live at CBME Shanghai and now anchors the AW2026 line alongside the brand’s seasonal collections.

The Four Pieces, Up Close

Cactus print — two ways

SXY-QK26-36 is the set made for motion: a rose-pink sweatshirt with the cactus painting across the chest, sheer painted sleeves, and relaxed joggers with an elastic waist. It is the piece you pack for park afternoons and long car rides. SXY-QK26-37 swaps the joggers for a layered watercolor tulle skirt over a crisp white sweatshirt — same painting, completely different energy, and a favorite for birthday photos.

Sunflower print — two ways

SXY-QK26-38 pairs the sunflower painting with an amber-yellow sweatshirt and matching joggers, finished with patchwork organza sleeves that catch the light. SXY-QK26-39 sets the same sunflowers on an ivory sweatshirt above a peach-toned tulle skirt — the softest of the four and the one that photographs like late afternoon.

All four are two-piece sets, so the top and bottom can be mixed with plain pieces your child already owns — one capsule, half a dozen outfits.

Sizing: Centimeters First

Like all Little Hanfu kidswear, the capsule is sized by height in centimeters. The sweatshirt sets run roomy; the tulle-skirt sets fit closest to measurement.

Care, Safety, and Movement — the Three Honest Answers

Machine washable? Yes. Cold water, gentle cycle, mesh bag, hang dry; turn the printed side in first. The prints are dye-fixed and tested to hold color — no special detergent, no dry-cleaning bills.

Safe for small children? The sets avoid neck drawstrings entirely, use soft elastic waists, and print the artwork directly into the fabric rather than applying patches or embellishments that could work loose. Hems sit above the shoe line so new walkers stay upright.

Can kids move in them? These are sweatshirts and joggers at heart — the most movement-friendly silhouettes in the entire AW2026 line. The tulle skirts are lined and finish at the knee, so climbing, squatting, and cartwheels all stay in range. That was the design brief: a painting a child can wear to Tuesday gym class.

For Retailers: Ordering the Capsule

The four collab sets are available through our wholesale program alongside the rest of the 39-piece AW2026 line. Sample orders are welcome, MOQ is kept low for first-time buyers, and mixed-size cartons are standard — most shops take 110–140 cm and rebuy 120–150 as the season runs. US, UK, EU, and AU shipping times are listed on the wholesale page, and our team answers fit and fabric questions directly through the contact form. If your customers ask for “something nobody else carries,” this capsule is a four-SKU answer with a story behind it.

The Bottom Line

The Ilia Kernitskii capsule is a small experiment that worked: four oil paintings, four two-piece sets, sized from 100 to 150 cm, machine washable, and priced for everyday wear rather than a glass case. See all four up close on the collections page — and if you buy one, send us a photo of the painting in the wild.
